Triangular Focus

by jacob bock

The first time I heard this expression was when I was reading Ev Bogue’s blog.  It made great sense to me.

You simplify your life to the point where your life revolves around three things.  The three things that matter most to you.

For me the three things that matter are:

1.  Prayer

2.  Evangelism

3.  Mentoring

Prayer is my intimacy with God.  This is so important to me that we have our own prayer house that is open eight hours a day at our ministry center in Madrid.  One of the places on earth I most love to be.

Evangelism.  Especially open-air proclamation. Preaching to the lost.  Preaching the Cross.  This is so important to me that we evangelize six nights a week year-round in downtown Madrid.

Mentoring is training others to do what you do, and to do it better. The work of an Evangelist is to evangelize and to train others to do the same.  About 75% of my interaction with people at our ministry is in a mentoring role.  Multiplication.  Reproduction.  It is so important.

So here is my challenge to you.  Pull out a pen and paper and draw a triangle.  Tell me what your triangular focus is.   Then, draw another triangle and write what you feel God’s wants it to be.

Next step:  Pruning.

We will talk about that next week.

My triangle is called ‘the great commandment’
    Side one-relationship with God
    Side two-relationships with believers
    Side three-relationships with unbelievers

Hi Jacob, Thank you for your email. I sow all your video because I want to learn to evangelize on the street. I go with my freind Rachel to town and we give them flyer about Jesus “so was my life”. I would like to learn more about ontheredbox. I listen about this message, I write in my notebook all. Sometime I fill alone. Thank you veriy much for your video, maybe when God
I will, one time I will go to Madrid to learn more about it. But I am very afraid to speak from many people, for me is better to speak with one person.
God bless your ministry, I pray for you all. I live in Switzerland – Basel

Noemi, Would love for you to come to Madrid to see the ministry. Why don’t you come to our annual conference the 28-29 of October?

I saw EZRA’s triangular focus today in my reading… 7:10

    1. to study the law of the Lord
    2. to do the law of the Lord
    3. to teach his statutes and rules in Israel

George, I think that is AMAZING! I haven’t been in Ezra for a long time either. I have good news… We now have a whole set of slides for all 5 of our workshops and notes… AND 30 minute workshops will be recorded on Saturday to accompany them. I will pass them on to you so you can teach them.

    I had a square.

    Prayer
    Evangelism
    Worship
    Discipleship

    Is that a bad thing?

Josh, I think the square idea is great. The idea is to limit your focus. Eph. 5 “Making the best use of the time because the days are evil…Understand what the will of the Lord is.” When we step out of the square, then we complicate our lives and fill it with things that are useless. Love your four things!

I might need a square too! Being a mom and a wife, alot of my energy goes to my family. But I’m not willing to let those other important things get pushed out of my focus. Would love to hear from other women, how they’ve broken down their focus.
