“It’s not my ministry”

by jacob bock

I can understand why you would be scared to death when thinking about doing open-air evangelism.  Some believe the fear of public speaking is greater than the fear of death!

Yet our assignment to GO and PROCLAIM still remains.

I am one of those kind of people that think everybody should like what I like and do what I do.   I just can’t even imagine someone NOT wanting to do open-air evangelism!  People sort of slither out of joining us by telling me that it is “not their ministry”.

So I got to thinking….

Here are the different areas of ministry at onthredbox.

  1. Preachers ontheredbox
  2. Testimonies onthreredbox
  3. Distribution of gospel tracts
  4. Personal evangelism  (Relational evangelism)
  5. Prayer and intercession

I can understand that not everyone would have the ministry to speak on a box. (Really I do!).  But I believe all the other aspects of open-air evangelism would be available to the entire body of Christ.

Anyway, just showing up is a huge blessing to those that have to minister ontheredbox.  We need all the support we can get!  Just being there makes a crowd and it is much easier for others to stop.

A team from Barcelona was going to do a week-long tour of ontheredbox evangelism.  An 11 year old wanted to go.  When confronted with his young age, he protested, “But who will pray for those that are preaching?  And I can pass out tracts!”  He was allowed to go.

As a leader, don’t force people to get ontheredbox.  Allow them to start out slow by just attending.  Then as they start feeling comfortable with the street they can graduate to praying and passing out tracts.  Soon they will be addicted and who knows, you might just be watching a new ontheredbox evangelist in the making!
