Expect three responses

by jacob bock

If you preach the Cross, you are no stranger to the wide range of response from people.  I’ve had people throw things at me; some scream and curse; some are full of questions; some fall under conviction and cry. So what is the “normal” response when you talk about sin and righteousness and judgment?

From my study of Paul in Greece, I see three basic ways that the open-air crowds responded to Paul.
  1. Some mocked him.
  2. Others said, “We want to hear more about this later.” [NLT]
  3. Some men believed.  (Acts 17:34)

There you have it. Some will mock you; some will want to learn more; some will be saved.  Remember, the one who mocks today, may be converted tomorrow.  We know that God is at work in their hearts.   If you have preached the evangelistic message, then the seed is in their hearts. The Holy Spirit will continue that work.

So chins up soldiers!  The responses you are getting are normal.  Don’t be discouraged.
