Why Red?
The simple answer is that when we designed the box at a flight case company in Madrid, they asked us what we wanted. I said,
1. A box that will take a lot of weight (we stand on it)
2. Three compartments to hold books and literature
3. Wheels and a handle
Then they asked what we were going to use if for and I told him that we would stand on it and preach. He was really interested by that — and said he would come see us in action.
Next he wanted to know what color we wanted: White, Black, Green, Yellow, Red or Blue?
I said, “black”.
Just then Kevin Prevost, my fellow missionary, interjected: “Red”.
“Red?” This seemed to come out of nowhere.
“Correct,” Kevin explained, “that way people who walk through the square will see a bright red box and be able to locate us.”
Red never even entered my mind! Yet, Kevin had a point and before I had a chance to refute, the order for the first Red box was made.
- just a common red box
- where God takes common people
- who live in common towns
- who use common things
- to preach the amazing story of the cross.
The power is not in the box or its color, but rather in the consistent going and proclaiming the Good News.
Hence we are ontheredbox.

So, my dear brother, how do I get one of those in Kingston, Jamaica? For now I’ll just use what I can…in Jamaica things are simply of not good quality. I’ll make something or buy something similar here while in Charlotte, but eventually it would be cool to have one. Of course traveling all over it might be bulky. I have found a folding stool that doesn’t weigh much. The RED color, however, is fantastic and I had not thought of the value of the color, but having been in sales and marketing for over thirty years I know the value of shock and attention. Red definitely gets somebody’s attention and furthermore we can talk about the color of the ONLY soap that can cleanse man of his stinky and dirty heart: the Blood of Jesus. Thanks for these thoughts and once again, please let me know how I could get a hold of one of these boxes. I am in Charlotte until the 24th…there might be a way. Let me know. Bless up, my brother and keep on preaching….
