What kind of christian are you?
It is quite common during our street evangelism to meet people that call themselves “Christians”. Don’t be too quick to involve them in your street ministry! You might need to witness to them. There are many that carry the badge of Christian, but are not walking with the Lord and have never experienced the new birth.
Here are some common “Christians.”
- Religious. They were born into a Christian family or in a Christian country but are strangers to regeneration.
- Deceived. Someone promised them eternal life if they repeated a prayer. They prayed, but never repented or turned to Christ in faith.
- Prodigal. They once walked with God. Now they walk in the ways of the world.
- Hypocrite. They are more interested in man pleasing than God pleasing.
So how can you discern if you should ask them to give a testimony on the box or if you should witness to them? Here are a couple of questions I ask.
- What church do you attend? Follow up by asking the name of their Pastor. At that point, you should get a good idea if they are genuine. Many don’t know the answer.
- “What kind of Evangelical Christian are you? One that lives in holiness or one that lives in sin?” That will shock them into the truth real quickly and by their immediate reaction you can decide where to go from there.
It is not by chance that you meet up with this kind of people in your street ministry. God brings these folks into your path so that you can minister to them. Pray that the Spirit would give you discernment into their lives and remember:
Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. James 5:20 (NKJV)
