Experiencing God:  Knowing and doing the will of God by Henry Blackaby.

Here are some quotes from the book to give you an idea of what you will learn.

“Claiming to have a word from God is serious business. If you have been given a word from God, you must continue in that direction until it comes to pass.”

The book or course will be well worth your time.  Most of my ministry has been based on the principles set forth by Blackaby.

Rom. 10:17  Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

An Ontheredbox team has a certain DNA.  The message we proclaim is:

Christ-centered 

• We talk about Jesus and the cross.
• We preach about His resurrection.
• We exalt the love of God in sending His Son to rescue us from our sin.

Simple

Even though we preach the great doctrines of the cross, we strive to keep the message simple.  We want a 10 year old to understand.

Creative

We illustrate our messages with stories and objects.  Audiences are much more likely to remember our message if we illustrate.

Consistent

Teams are committed to preaching at least once a week… no matter what.  They do not let excuses keep them from the work of evangelism.

Anointed

Our goal is not to trust in the “arm of the flesh”, but rather in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.  We are not interested in entertaining our listeners.  We want them to have a supernatural encounter with God on the streets.  Therefore the anointing is priority.

Some believe it is not legal to preach open-air in your city.  You may be surprised.  Most countries have freedom of speech and religion.  Normally if you don’t use a sound system and are in a public area, there is no problem.  Check with the laws and constitution of your country.  Remember, most policeman are unaware of the freedoms we have as street evangelists.  Make a copy of the laws and carry them with you.

If just five people from every local church would proclaim the Gospel open-air once a week, our cities could be reached with the Gospel.

God showed up.  We all knew it.

Martin gave a testimony on the box and dozens of people stopped.  Having so many listeners, I thought it would be a good time for an altar call, but I decided against it.   Then Claudio preached.  I translated.  God was all over the place.  People started coming from every corner, some even sat on the ground to listen.  (That has never happened.)  I have heard Claudio preach many times, but NEVER like that!  Who was this man preaching on the box?

Oh for the Presence of God on the streets!!

There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that we need more than a supernatural visit from the Holy Spirit.  It is the only way we can accomplish our task.

Five years ago two Spaniards visited Berlin, Germany and saw someone preaching on a box.  They inquired if they were the same ones they had heard preaching in Madrid.

Later we were preaching in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Hertzegovina.  Two months later a Bosnian lady was in Madrid and asked if we were the same ones that preached in her country a few months earlier.

Ontheredbox Sevilla preaches weekly, they often hear comments like, “These are just like the ones we heard in Madrid.”

Ontheredbox is a network of teams!  The idea is that the unchurched can hear the Gospel message on their turf.  No matter where they travel, they will be confronted with their lostness and offered salvation.  The teams consist of Christians from various churches.  Five members is a good place to start.  All these teams form a network around the world. As a network we can encourage and pray for one another until we complete our task of proclaiming the Gospel to every person.

Do not faint!

The main reason I like to boast is so that people will think well of me.  So my temptation is talk about what I am doing.

Not good.

It is always better to let others boast about you.  Boasting feels good to you, but nobody around you likes to hear it.

Spend your time instead bragging on God.  Boast in the Lord.  Talk about Jesus and all the amazing things He has done.  After all, it IS all about Him.

Sin has done quite a number on us.  Satan set out to kill, steal and destroy us and he would have succeeded had it not have been for the hand of God reaching down from heaven to rescue us!

The devil loves it when we talk about him.  He loves the attention, the worship and the press time.

My suggestion when giving your testimony is to give sin and Satan as little publicity as possible.  If you say anything about him, inform those how deceptive and wicked he is.  Talk more about your encounter with Jesus!  Talk about how he saved you from your sin and gave you new life.  Exalt Christ in your evangelism.  He is the main subject.

I love me.

I love my reputation.

I care very much about what people think of me.

John the Baptist didn’t seem to care much about what people thought of him.  He was more concerned about preparing a way.  He loved the truth more than himself.  They chopped off his head because of it.

Stephen, the deacon didn’t seem to care too much about his life. Had he kept his mouth shut, he would have lived.  Yet he loved the truth more than he loved his own life.  So, they threw rocks on his body until he was dead.

Jesus was not thinking about himself, his reputation or what people thought of him as he sweat blood in the garden. He knew he would be nailed to a tree naked.  He knew he would be clothed in our sin.  He knew he had to drink the cup of God’s wrath.  It cost him his life.

Yet he did it for you.

What could we actually accomplish for the Kingdom of God if we didn’t love ourselves so much?

Jessica was frustrated because she was “stood up” three Sundays in a row waiting at the bus stop to take someone she met on the street to church.  They never showed up.  So she asked me yesterday…

“So how do you follow up with the people you minister to on the streets?”

“I don’t believe in follow up.” I told her.   “The need is not for me to follow them, but for them to follow Jesus.”

When someone repents of their sin and trusts in Christ for salvation they experience a conversion or in other words, a new birth.  Part of the package of being born again is an insatiable hunger for righteousness and the things of God.  The new believer’s natural desire will be to “Follow Jesus”.

Blind Bartimaeus immediately recovered his sight and followed Jesus on the way. (Mark 10:46)  It wasn’t Jesus that followed Bartimaeus.

After being delivered from demons, the man in Mark five “begged Jesus that he might be with him”.  Yet Jesus told him to go home to his friends and tell them how much Jesus had done for him.  Not only did Jesus not follow him, he told the new convert to go evangelize.

Our assignment is to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom and to make disciples.  A disciple is someone who is following Christ.  Feel free to say with Paul, “Follow me as I follow Christ.”  The new believer, if they are truly converted, will not die of hunger.  You will find they they are the ones that seek you out.  So when they do, teach them to follow Christ.
